MP Select Mini Controller Board Fan Mount by NF6X Remix
thingiverse
I desperately needed a main board fan after my Mini kept overheating and shutting down on long print jobs. Luckily, this fantastic fan bracket from NF6X perfectly fit the bill, but finding metric standoffs in my area proved to be a challenge, so I cleverly designed 16mm spacers for the bracket using FreeCad, adding an extra layer of strength with a 1mm chamfer at the base. To attach it, I printed the bracket on my Mini at an optimal 0.13125 layer height and 50 percent infill, then secured it firmly with M3 X 25 screws and lock washers. The fan itself is the one recommended in the original design, operating remarkably quietly and steadily. My soldering skills are still a work in progress, so I opted to extract the contacts from the 12V input plug instead of taking the risk of soldering directly to the main board. I managed to loosen the crimps just enough to add the fan leads and then re-tightened the crimp tabs, carefully re-inserting the contacts into the plug. Finally, I tidied up the wire arrangement with some extra cable ties after reassembling everything. After making sure the side panel was back in place, I had to remove it again to verify that the fan was indeed running, its silence is almost deceiving.
