Mouse Trap Box
thingiverse
I wanted to keep the original design intact so I added a jar (box) and its matching lid which can all be 3D printed together as one unit. This allows us to see into the box through the holes and also lets out any strong food smells that might lure in our unwanted guest. To make it more enticing, I drilled holes in the swinging door so the mouse can take a peek at the goodies inside. My thinking was if the mouse could see its reward, it would be more likely to enter the trap. Unfortunately, my target mouse proved to be quite cunning and refused to budge despite my best efforts. To hold the little swing door in place, I used a paper clip but later discovered an axle from an RC car project that worked perfectly for this job, measuring 1.2mm thick. In the future, I plan to add proximity or motion sensors powered by Arduino which will send data to a remote screen so I can keep tabs on whether any unwanted visitors have been caught in the trap.
