Mouse Skull and Brain
thingiverse
This is a precise replica of a mouse skull and brain. Due to a lack of high-quality STL files available in the literature, I created my own model using the sources linked below. The skull was obtained from anatomical microCT scans while the brain was extracted from histological sectioning. Keep in mind that no two mice have identical anatomy. I edited both models to fit together seamlessly and repaired reconstruction artifacts/errors. You may notice that I deleted the nasal cavity of the mouse skull as it's not relevant to my focus on the brain and its positioning inside the skull. I included a Meshmixer file for anyone interested in further editing the model. Original files used include: The skull was uploaded by MarkU at Thingiverse (ID: 20200). The brain was downloaded from the Scalable Brain Atlas (https://scalablebrainatlas.incf.org/) and converted from .x3d to .stl. Note that I have yet to attempt printing these models. Update (9/2/2018): The Lambda suture issue with the underlying brain has been resolved, along with parts of the brain hitting the skull.
