Mounting plate, fully customizable, update

thingiverse

A customizable mounting plate or spacer, originally designed for 2020-frame use but also adaptable to other purposes. Update May 2019: Customizer enhanced for greater user-friendliness. Customizable in the Thingiverse Customizer. Initially, it may appear as a basic shape, a small plate with a hole. The Thingiverse Customizer is experiencing bugs (May 2019), consider using the Openscad customizer instead if it doesn't work properly. Openscad is a free and open-source program available at http://www.openscad.org. The Left and Right Plate You can add mounting-plates to both the right and left sides of the base. Keep in mind that the plates are measured from the middle baseline. If you're using it on a 2020-frame, add 10 mm to the widths of the plates. The Holes Up to ten holes can be added to your design. Holes are essential for mounting the plate to an object (printer or other device). Place them along the baseline (x=0, Y>0). The Y-coordinate is always positive and moves from top to bottom. X-coordinates can be negative (left plate) or positive (right plate), counting from the middle baseline. A hole is disabled if both the X and Y coordinates are zero. The Offset Adjust the offset (Z) from the object where you want to place this mounting plate. The Ridge The ridge helps center your mount on a 2020-frame. If using T-nuts, it's not necessary. The ridge is 1.4 mm high. The Help-Grid This unique feature likely exists for a reason: It's an eye-balling aid for your design. The distance between gridlines matches the given value in the customizer. The orange zone indicates where the 2020-frame may interfere, and the red line marks the baseline. Don't forget to turn it off by setting its value to zero. Needed Length for Bolts/Screws on a 2020 Frame Calculate the needed length by adding the thickness of the mounting plate, offset, and 4-6 mm (ridge not included). Happy Mounting! *For customizable spacers, consider a simpler design at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3025911. **Values for the ridge and offset can be adjusted in OpenScad by modifying secondary parameters. The number of holes is easily adjustable by copying some parameters (Mhole?) and adding them to your design.
