Mounting Adapter for Hue Tap on Merten System M
thingiverse
This adapter lets you install a Philips Hue Tap switch on top of a Merten System M wall switch with ease. The Tap also covers the existing switch, so you won't have to worry about accidentally cutting power to your Hue lights when using it. However, if you ever need to remove your Tap, you can still use the wall switch as a backup. The adapter works great with both single switches and double switches too. Installing this adapter is generally safe since you won't come into contact with live wires during the process. But, if you're unsure about something or aren't 100% confident that your switch was installed correctly, it's always safer to turn off power at the fuse box before starting. Note that in some areas, installing the adapter might require a license since it involves electrical work. Preparing the Hue Tap Mounting Plate To start using this mounting plate from the Hue Tap, rotate it by 120 degrees as shown on the illustration. However, be aware that it comes with a small nib designed to prevent incorrect installation orientation. Simply cut off the nib with a sharp knife before attaching it to your wall. Installing the Printed Adapter To install this adapter, just remove the rocker (or rockers) from its base by pulling them off. The adapter consists of two parts: a black base that snaps into place inside your wall switch and keeps everything aligned, along with the actual rocker(s) attached to this base. Simply pull off the rocker(s), and if you're careful, it might be possible to put things back together as they were. Next, insert the base back into the wall switch. You may have to adjust the frame afterwards. Once you've done that, snap the adapter firmly onto its base. Installing the Hue Tap Mounting Plate To attach this mounting plate from your Hue Tap securely to the printed adapter, apply glue to its self-adhesive pads as installed already on the plate itself and then mount it onto the adapter. Use screw holes in the adapter for accurate placement. Remember that because you're rotating this installation by 120 degrees, a 'top' marker will actually point elsewhere than the very top of the switch face when everything is set up correctly. While only self-adhesive pads were needed in my setup, it might be best to also use some tiny screws as extra backup for mounting security.
