Mount Saint Helens
sketchfab
Mount Saint Helens in Washington state before and after its 1980 eruption. Digital elevation models were downloaded from the University of Washington's Geomorphological Research Group (http://gis.ess.washington.edu/data/raster/thirtymeter/mtsthelens/) but I don't know the exact date of either survey. It is clear that the post-eruption model shows a resurgent dome, indicating it wasn't taken immediately after the eruption. The red material represents most of the 2.07 cubic kilometers missing from the more recent DEM. For scale, Lower Manhattan has been inserted into the caldera using modified Sketchup models from jwdoney (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/user.html?id=0394287310658687781132289) and XcLusiveGTtriLLa (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/user.html?id=0466694825847329493350611). This model aims to convey the scale of geological processes, like a medium-sized explosive volcanic eruption. It's similar to a previously published model at https://skfb.ly/KrKM
