Mount Hood, known as Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, towers above the Cascade Volcanic Arc as a potentially explosive stratovolcano in northern Oregon. Shaped by a subduction zone on the Pacific coast, it rises dramatically in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Situated approximately 50 miles east-southeast of Portland, Mount Hood straddles the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties. As Oregon's highest peak, it stands proudly among the nation's loftiest mountains based on its impressive prominence.
