Mount Fuji and Mount Etna

thingiverse

These relief models, representing Mt. Fuji and Mt. Etna, were constructed using NASA's SRTM3 dataset for height data, available at 3 arc-second intervals. The data comes in "tiles" of one degree latitude and longitude, containing 1201 rows and columns of two byte signed integers. Fortran code similar to thing:118327 was used to create the openSCAD polyhedron commands that built these models. STL files are named Fuji.stl and Etna.stl. The fortran code for creating the polyhedron commands is also included. Both models can be directly printed on a build platform, taking approximately an hour on a Replicator. Model side lengths measure 25 arc-minutes, with Mt. Fuji reaching 3776 meters and Mt. Etna 3350 meters in height. The models are oversampled and can be scaled up to show finer detail.
