Mount for Impulse Sprinkler on Green Metal U Post
thingiverse
Planting season has arrived, along with the need for watering. However, most sprinkler systems are designed low to the ground, causing nearby plants to remain unsprayed. To solve this issue, we've used various mounts to elevate a cheap impulse sprinkler in our 1800sqft garden. A simple 3D-printed piece can securely hold the sprinkler on a standard green metal U post. We used clear PLA for easy visibility of any potential degradation from sun and water exposure. This part is easy to print, strong with low fill (e.g., 8%), and has thin walls. The height of the X-cut section can be reduced for smaller sprinkler mounting spikes. It's recommended to print the part upside-down for better PLA adhesion on top edges. The X-cut is designed to prevent water from being trapped against the PLA. The 3D-printed part fits into any standard U post, with a hole allowing a 1/4 20 bolt to pass through and secure the part onto the post using a nut. An additional nylon cable tie can be used for extra security. The sprinkler's spike simply drops into the X-cut at the top. For optimal water supply hose placement, it is suggested that the hose pulls against the post rather than the part. The sprinkler can be easily repositioned in any orientation. The total cost of this setup includes a $3 plastic spike impulse sprinkler, less than $6 for the U post, and under $1 for the bolt, nut, and cable tie. Overall, it's an affordable solution to elevate your sprinkler system for efficient watering in your garden.
