Originally, I had an unused Sparkfun 20x4 serial LCD for my Printrbot Simple. It came with a soldered-on serial backpack. However, newer models have the serial circuit built-in, eliminating the need for the protruding box. Now, this LCD is controlled by a custom script on my Raspberry Pi, which runs Repetier-Server.
