Motorized TV arm
thingiverse
A friend needed a motorized arm for his bedroom TV because his small room made it impossible to watch from bed and sofa comfortably. He wanted to be able to watch TV while lounging on both surfaces. The arm can slide left and right, flip out, extend, swing 180 degrees, and tilt 45 degrees on one side (the sofa side). It can be modified to tilt on both sides, but my friend didn't need it, so I chose not to implement this feature. I wasn't sure if the arm would stay upright when the motors were off. WARNING: This design is far from complete and requires significant modifications to become functional. My friend changed his mind about using the motorized arm, so I'm putting the project on hold. Some suggestions for anyone who wants to finish this design: Use a current sense sensor on the TV power cable to detect when the TV is on and move it to the default viewing position. Utilize an IR sensor and unused buttons on your TV remote to change the viewing position. Extend the arm first, then flip it out, and vice versa, to avoid damaging the TV or wall during operation. Make sure not to crash into walls while swinging, extending, or retracting the arm. The brown "part" in the design is a leather piece that moves with the assembly to conceal the mechanism. You'll need another way to hide the base of the rotating arm; consider using springs to stretch it out.
