The turntable is part of a motorized sledge for moving cameras, more concrete move linearly in a range of about 1m and rotate by 360°. Some cameras are fixed in objects weighting a couple of kilograms. Hence, I needed to construct a mototized turntable that - connects a stepper motor and a platform, - turns smoothly, - is mounted to sliders in 20x20mm aluminum profiles (for linear motion), - is conneted to a cable chain (because of linear motion), and - is very stable. The center piece fits to hold a flat stepper motor Joy-it NEMA-FLAT01. For stability I came up with a design based on 5mm aluminum pipes, which are connected by the 3D printed adapters. This has several additional advantages. The pipes are very cheap, available in our local hardware store, and easy to cut. As the pipes are oriented towards the turntable's center they are perfect for holding bearings on which the top platform rests and rotates. The device already works fine for the linear motion and rotation. The project is still work-in-progress, however, because the rotating platform on which objects are placed (lying upside down on the keyboard on one of the images) is still a draft with some aspects to improve.
