This design is built to be quite flexible. It can function as a\nmobile robot platform\nmechanical toy tank (with no motors)\nmotored toy tank\nmechanical bulldozer\nmotored bulldozer. The [optional] tank module features either a standard 7-8 speed bicycle chain or an o-ring of suitable size stretched to two wheels on one side. Using one o-ring for each wheel is also an option. The base unit is designed to accommodate geared DC mini motors which can be easily sourced from various suppliers. If the design will serve as a pure mechanical toy, then extra axle components can be fabricated and used in place of the motors. A clever mechanism at the heart of the platform enables us to tighten the chain without requiring an additional jockey wheel, by extending or shortening the entire base unit through a single screw adjustment. When planning to build the wheels version, users might simply glue the parts together. Alternatively, wrapping two rubber bands around the platform can keep parts secure. Six different wheel versions are provided. One type is designed for free rotation over non-motorized axles. The other type is intended for attachment to gear motor shafts and can be secured using a screw. Both of these options are available in tank module, rubber ring or normal wheel configurations which do not necessitate the installation of a bicycle chain. User input is highly valued.
