Motorized Lazy Susan
thingiverse
I rapidly prototyped a design that utilizes a synchronous AC motor from an old microwave oven and several ball bearings I had on hand. My intention for this project is to use it for acrylic pour painting, but it could also be used in other applications such as product displays or photogrammetry. The printed components required are: -- (1x) Motor mount -- (1x) Motor shaft receiver -- (4x) Bearing holder In addition to the printed parts, I employed: -- (2x) 18" x 18" x 1/2" Plywood boards -- (4x) Small ball bearings -- (1x) Synchronous AC motor (mine rotates at 6 rpm) -- (1x) Power cord -- (4x) 1/4-20 Machine screws, 1" long -- (4x) 1/4-20 Nuts (Lock nuts would be ideal, but regular nuts seem to work adequately) -- (16x) Short wood screws The motor I used was taken from an old microwave oven and is designed to rotate the platter while cooking food. This motor has internal plastic gears, so stalling it out is not advisable. The shaft receiver plate was specifically created to fit my particular motor's shaft, so you should print it first and test it with your motor before proceeding. I soldered the power cord directly onto the motor prongs, ensuring it begins rotating as soon as it's plugged in. Since I'm using it for painting, I avoided an exposed switch to prevent paint from clogging it. This design is still an experiment, but anyone interested in trying it out or working on it is welcome to do so. Good luck.
