Motorcycle badge holder for my base ID
thingiverse
When I arrive at the base for work, the guard must physically grasp my ID and inspect it closely. This means most holders, lanyards, clips, etc. didn't function properly for me. I ride a motorcycle, which makes things even more complicated, so I designed this solution. It consistently receives positive comments from the guards since I can complete tasks quickly and efficiently, making their job much easier. It features a thin plate with fingers to securely hold my badge. I've used it for five months now, and I haven't encountered any issues. It utilizes the RAM Mount system that all my bikes use, specifically the RAM-B-202U-23 Ball Base with a 1.5" x 2.5" 4-Hole Pattern. It should work effectively for most credit-card size badges without raised lettering. I've included the OpenSCAD files so people can customize it as needed. Update: November 10, 2019 - I added relief to the friction fingers in the middle plate, ensuring that bolt tightness doesn't affect its performance. This improvement is significant, despite being just one layer. Update: November 11, 2019 - I improved the finger shape for increased friction. Note: The ZIP file contains miscellaneous files in the /images directory, but the STL and SCAD files in the /files directory are accurate. Note: I plan to stop using Thingiverse and switch to a more reliable platform.
