Motor gear for Ingenious Machines set

<p>"Ingenious Machines" is an interlocking-piece building set. Included in the set are a couple of motors to make your creations move. Unfortunately one of the motors in my family's set stopped working. Taking it apart revealed that the gear shaft that connects to the wheels had a few broken teeth, so it was not able to make a complete revolution.</p> <p>I created this replacement and printed it, and it was mostly successful. The tiny teeth were just on the edge of what my printer could handle, but after I smoothed a few rough edges with a small strip of very fine sandpaper, it seemed to work as well as the original.</p> <p>You might want to just print a few layers of the gear to compare your printer's output to the original gear, and scale it until it matches perfectly. I found that, counter-intuitively, I got a worse result when I tried using the lowest layer thickness my printer is capable of. I think I got the best result with 0.20mm. I used PLA with a Prusa Mini+.</p> <p>Replacing the gear in the gearbox was pretty easy, just open it up and swap the piece.</p> Category: Mechanical Toys
