Motion Control Rig Pillow Block
cults3d
A pillow block for a bearing and 3/8" shaft assembly with pulley is just what I needed. Edit 2013/09/30: My motion control rig is up and running again, and the pillow blocks that hold my bearings, pulleys and motor have been rebuilt to perfection. The new pillow block design boasts an integrated, threaded bearing retainer that leaves no room for error - no more collars on your shaft needed to keep those bearings in place or your 3/8" shaft centered. The updated pillow block design also comes equipped with hex keyed through holes for mounting the block itself, eliminating the need for self-tapping screws in the bottom of the block that just don't hold up after repeated breakdown and rebuild cycles. Last but not least, the motor side pillow block features an integrated motor mount specifically designed for a NEMA 17 geared stepper - mine came from phidgets.com, but you can get yours anywhere. With any luck, these pictures will help explain how all these parts come together to form the foundation of a belt-driven motion control system.
