On the banks of the Guadalimar River, near the ruins of an ancient metalworking factory, the Muela sanctuary was constructed around the 8th century BC. This sacred precinct grouped various rooms around a central courtyard, including a kitchen and a well for offerings. It is considered evidence of Tartessian influence in Cástulo. In all these sanctuaries, the sacred banquet was a central ceremony in the religious ritual. The Muela sanctuary courtyard has a cobblestone pavement made of pebbles. The stones embedded in the ground form a grid of light and dark squares, framed by an ornate border of curved motifs. This pavement was rebuilt several times throughout the 7th century BC.
