I am currently studying computer science at the TU Vienna. For me, the most thrilling part of this program is that from coding software to electronics and hardware everything is essential. So, to represent this field of study I chose something that enables me to write these words you are reading right now. MOS-FET transistors are the heart of nearly every electronic system today. The model allows you to simulate the switching process of this marvel by hand. You are the programmer, pulling the input-card through the gate. Your movement is translated into binary as zero and one. Zero and one are represented as voltage levels at the edge of the card. And rising voltage levels create or collapse the conductive zone. A process that transformed the electronic industry right in your hands. As in computer science the entire way matters from software up to physics. Have fun coding and learning :). P.s. interesting fact, in today's computer systems the green insulation in the pictures would have a height of only a few atoms.
