Human: NOTE: This isn't security-focused, but if you've got an interior door with an antique-style mortise latch or lock then here's the simple way I came up with to put in a modern cylinder-type lockset/latch. I had an interior door with an old-fashioned style mortise latch/lock, the kind that uses a skeleton key for the lock. It was worn out and partially broken inside so in order to put in a cheap modern lockset to replace it I designed these parts. Remove the knobs and faceplates and then pull out the mortised-in lock/latch assembly. Next, take a drill guide, you can get really affordable lockset drill guides now that come with the hole saw and the 1-inch bit for boring a door for a lockset, center the guide on the edge to line up the 1-inch hole with the adapter that you printed and installed into the door using the original screw holes. If the holes are worn out just put in a couple longer screws, then drill out your large lockset hole with the hole saw and remove your guide. For the latch bolt I simply used the type that you can remove the plate from and put the friction fit shims on it and pressed it into the 1-inch hole, then I installed the two new faceplates on each side and installed the lockset. Easy as that! Of course, you also have to remove the original strike plate in the door jamb and put on the new style strike plate, I filled mine in with wood filler and let it dry overnight and then installed the new latch plate. If your mortise lock/latch is the type that just has the latch and not a lock you may only have round trim pieces on either side surrounding the doorknob, if that's the case then you don't need the trim plates. In my situation, the door had another large hole bored out for the key to enter on both sides so rather than try to fill them in and sand and finish to match I just made new trim plates to cover it and the old screw holes to make it look clean. Some ideas I thought of to improve this slightly are you could use wood filament and print a piece that could be stained to match the door, or if your door is painted just get some spray paint for plastic and paint the pieces to blend them in. Otherwise works great, saved the otherwise good solid old door and saved a lot of money on having to replace it just because of the old style latch!
