Morning Glory
myminifactory
Nineteenth-century artists frequently crafted images of children to convey innocence and virtue, qualities that held significant importance following the Civil War, a period when the nation appeared to have lost its innocence. Joel Tanner Hart created this sculpture after witnessing a young girl intensely focused on collecting morning glories hidden in the folds of her dress. The roses and lilies, even the white marble itself, signify the girl's purity, while the morning glory signifies the transitory nature of childhood.
