As of February 1st, 2018, creating your own 3D name has become easier with the help of BlockCAD. Check out "3D Names Using BlocksCAD" (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2778956) for more details. Here are some examples of 3D names that have been successfully printed: Jane, TONY, ZAC, Catherine, Michele, JANE. For the latter, I used "jane_2_111019a.stl" which is JANE in all caps and stretched to make the letters taller. These names were created using Google Sketchup, a free downloadable software. A quick tutorial on creating 3D names in Sketchup can be found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1230. If you create a 3D name, don't forget to share it with others by uploading it to Thingiverse with the "3D names" tag. A fun fact: Catherine was printed using Makerbot's glow-in-the-dark plastic. When creating names like TONY and ZAC, I used capital letters and the "scale" tool in Sketchup to stretch the name vertically for better visibility. I also found that a 10mm depth for connectors with a total depth of 20 mm works well. For the dot in the 'i' of Michele, I made the connector a bit taller to ensure better support for the tower. So, go ahead and unleash your creativity!
