Morana is the Slavic goddess associated with passing of seasons, winter and death, but also the rebirth and cycle of nature. Her death at the end of winter becomes the rebirth of the goddess of spring, Vesna. Her very name means death, but she is also connected with war and pestilence and she is known to torment both guilty and innocent in their sleep, sending them nightmares. Morana is the goddess that is not worshiped but appeased and sacrifices are made to her in order to not appear.
