Moon Stand
thingiverse
This Stand provides an elegant base for your favorite spaceship model, its curved arm resembling an orbital path above your work surface. Print in gray or silver PLA for a moon-like appearance, or choose brighter colors for any type of alien world. Various attachment methods are provided. The default works well with starship-type models such as http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:472930. The circle works well with saucer craft, lunar landers, or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1274036. The "tail fin" adapter with two points works best with retro designs like http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:927513 or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:406777. Options 2 and 3 require glue to attach the adapter end-pieces. All are designed to hold a model without gluing it to the stand (or adapter). Note that you may need to resize the stand (and/or increase its weight by printing with more infill) to accommodate various sizes of models. All holes, notches, and other cuts to the model were made using Microsoft 3D Builder, which yielded better results from Boolean operations than I have previously achieved with TinkerCAD or Netfabb Basic. Nov 2016: The updated Moon_stand_v2 now includes small and large concave surfaces for supporting spaceships with cylindrical fuselages.
