Moon Relief Map
thingiverse
I'm working on generating a detailed relief map of the Moon's surface, leveraging height data from multiple sources. I've broken down the dark side into 66 sections, each roughly 128,000 square kilometers in size. Utilizing HeightmapToSTL tool, these grayscale height maps are being converted into three-dimensional plates with great precision. With a current output of nine printed tiles, I'm eager to revisit the map for increased detail and create a total of 256 tiles featuring much higher contrast. The final plan is to donate this ambitious installation to the Challenger Learning Center as a permanent exhibit. Time remains a significant concern, however, given the considerable amount of time it takes to print each plate - enough to make even the most determined enthusiast consider alternative options!
