Moon Buggy for BigBricks Classic Spaceman
prusaprinters
I'm a huge fan of the BigBricks designs created by Jacob Hardwell. After making several of the Classic Spaceman model, I wanted to create a moon buggy to display them with. I used classic set 886 and 889 made in 1979 as inspiration for this design. All of the major bricks needed to create this were available on Printables.com thanks to the awesome work of thall72. They just needed to be scaled up to work with the BigBricks designs. While making this, I discovered that the holes on the back of the legs of the BigBricks designs were not spaced evenly, which meant that it would not be possible to snap the figure onto the vehicle in a seated position. To get around this, I created a custom 2x2 “seat” adapter brick with the studs placed such that the BigBricks figure could be attached to this brick and then this brick could be attached to the vehicle. (You can see this in the side view image I posted. There's a 2x6 plate towards the bottom of the model. On top of this sits the 2x4 mud flaps over the wheels. The 2x2 seat adapter is placed in-between with the figure attached on top). For the wheel / tire assembly, I cut the wheels in half so they could be inserted and glued into the tires (from the front and back). Then these could be easily attached & glued to the axle after the axle is inserted into the wheel base. (I didn't think to take pictures of this when putting it together, otherwise I would have included them here. I plan to make another one of these and will update this post with additional instructions once that's done.) This was all printed in PLA, but I would think TPU could also be used for the tires if desired. I've included a design for the whole / uncut wheel as well in case you'd like to try using TPU for the tires and fitting the entire wheel inside the tire as one piece. The gray air tank assembly is the same as the one provided in the BigBricks design, so I did not include it here.If you decide to print this, I would love to see it. Please post pics of your makes, and I'd really appreciate it if you could like this design by clicking the "like" link above.Lastly, I'd like to say thank you so much to Jacob and thall72 for all the amazing work done that made this design possible!! You guys rock!!!
