Monumento en memoria del ingeniero Orueta
sketchfab
The monolith, a work by Emiliano Barral, was unveiled on October 9, 1927 and erected in the middle of Rufo Garcia Rendueles Avenue, facing San Lorenzo Beach and close to the Ateneo Obrero headquarters. "In 1955, it was relocated from the boulevard of Rufo Rendueles to the park, the modernist monument to Manuel Orueta, a work by sculptor Emiliano Barral and one of the most interesting and valuable sculptures housed in this green area." It commemorates the tragedy of Oles (July 25, 1926) in which the Gijonese engineer Manuel de Orueta and two of his factory workers, Lorenzo Martinez and his son Luis, died while fishing in a pedrero from that parish of Villaviciosa.
