The Monument to the Sailor of Taranto is one of the monuments in the New Town of the city. Dedicated to sailors of the Italian Navy, it was created from bronze on Two Seas Street by sculptor Vittorio Di Cobertaldo in 1974 at the request of Admiral Angelo Iachino, commander of the fleet stationed in Taranto during World War II, who wanted to donate the work to the city that hosted the famous "Night of Taranto".
