Bronze Monument Honors Spanish Master Painter Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez A bronze statue stands proudly on a stone base, paying tribute to the celebrated Spanish painter Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, born in Seville in 1599. The impressive piece was crafted by renowned sculptor Aniceto Marinas of Segovia, born in 1866. Strategically placed directly across from the grand facade of the Prado Museum, this magnificent monument rises an astonishing five meters high, drawing the eye upwards. On June 14th, 1899, it was officially unveiled to commemorate Velázquez's remarkable 300-year milestone since his birth.
