I am part of a thriving community of makers in Portland, Oregon. We call ourselves Layer Geeks and even have a club on meetup.com called the “Portland 3D printing lab”. We love to engage in lively discussions about 3D printing and challenge each other to take our skills to new heights. We also enjoy working on fun projects like creating a life-size cow using 3D printing technology. One of my most memorable projects was when the Portland Art Museum asked me to 3D scan the Cantor foundation's statues, which were created by the renowned artist Auguste Rodin. With patience and precision, I guided my iPad equipped with the Structure scanner from Occipital, carefully capturing every detail in real time. The resulting 3D printable object was then processed using Autodesk's Meshmixer application to refine its size and cleanliness. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the Portland Art Museum on this project, allowing me to share these scans with my fellow makers. If you're interested in experiencing the beauty of Rodin's work for yourself, I highly recommend visiting "Auguste Rodin: The Human Experience" – the exhibit is ongoing through April 2017. I invite you to join us and have fun with the scans, creating them for yourself or a friend so that you too can be part of the maker movement.
