Monumental Head of Jean d’Aire, Rodin, Portland Art Museum
thingiverse
I'm part of a thriving community of makers in Portland, Oregon. We call ourselves Layer Geeks and have an active club on meetup.com called the "Portland 3D Printing Lab." We love to discuss 3D printing and challenge each other to create innovative projects. One exciting project we did was 3D print a life-size cow, #crowdcow, which remains one of my favorites to date. Recently, I received an incredible opportunity from the Portland Art Museum. They asked me to 3D scan the Cantor Foundation's statues made by Auguste Rodin. With patience and precision, I guided my iPad equipped with the Structure scanner from Occipital. In real-time on the iPad, I could see the object being recorded into a 3D printable model. I then used Autodesk's Meshmixer application to refine and clean up the scan. The Portland Art Museum made this experience possible, and I feel truly fortunate to share these scans with my fellow makers. If you're interested, go visit "Auguste Rodin: The Human Experience" – the exhibit is ongoing through April 2017.
