This monument pays tribute to a pivotal figure from France's past, a leader whose contributions had a lasting impact on French politics and government. As Prime Minister from 1899-1902, this statesman held a prominent position in the French Republican party, guiding the country through significant times. The sculpture that stands before us is a masterpiece of classical design, featuring a central bust of Waldeck-Rousseau surrounded by two stately columns and an arch. On one side of the bust, three figures stand tall, their faces uplifted towards the statesman as if in admiration. These figures are meant to symbolize the French people's reverence for this leader. Laurent-Honoré Marqueste, a renowned sculptor from France, was responsible for creating this magnificent work of art. As an artist who worked primarily within the Beaux-Arts tradition, he brought his unique style and skill to bear on the sculpture.
