The Royal Scots Greys Monument proudly stands tall in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. It showcases a gallant Royal Scots Dragoon Guard clad in uniform, donning a majestic bearskin hat, gripping a sword and rifle, honoring the Regiment's fallen heroes who bravely fought during the Boer War. The iconic eagle insignia on the plaque was cleverly adopted by the regiment after Ensign Ewart skillfully captured it from the French at the pivotal Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The monument was masterfully crafted by renowned Scottish sculptor William Birnie Rhind (1853-1933), celebrated for his striking war memorials throughout the area. The unveiling ceremony took place on November 16th, 1906, with the esteemed Earl of Rosebery officiating the event. Two additional plaques were later added to pay tribute to the Regiment's fallen soldiers in both World Wars, serving as a poignant reminder of their ultimate sacrifice.
