Monument to Lucien Bonaparte, Prince of Canino
myminifactory
The model was commissioned by Alexandrine Blechamp, second wife of Lucien Bonaparte (1775-1840). Her husband's demise is depicted in the bas-relief as a righteous man or a "Christian philosopher". The prince bestows his blessing upon his kneeling spouse flanked by allegorical figures: Opinion, daughter of Reason, who crowns Lucien, and Faith, Abundance, and Ambition recoiling in unison. The outline of the bas-relief appears to be derived from that of Canova's Lamentation over Socrates.
