Monument to Isaac Watts

Located at the heart of Abney Park, just beside the chapel, in Stoke Newington, London, stands an imposing figure. A heroic-sized statue clad in academic robes carries a book with confidence as it perches atop a sturdy classical plinth supported by a tall, weathered base. A cast iron fence encircles the entire structure. On the base of this remarkable monument, Dr Johnson's eulogy is inscribed, sharing his life story and achievements. Additionally, a legend notes that the statue was erected through public subscription in 1845. Notably, the life dates of the famous preacher, 1674-1748, are also engraved on the pedestal.
