Dedicated to King Ferdinand VII who ruled Spain between 1814 and 1833. It was promoted by Claudio Martínez de Pinillos, Count of Villanueva, and erected in the middle of the Plaza de Armas in 1834. It is the work of the Spanish sculptor Antonio Solá. In 1955 it was removed from its original place to make way for the statue of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, my Founding Father.
