This plaster cast commemorates an original monument crafted from marble with glazed terracotta elements. Luca della Robbia created this replica of the monument to honor Benozzo Federighi, Bishop of Fiesole, and it is now on display at S. Trinità church in Florence, acquired from Berlin. The tomb of Benozzo Federighi, who passed away in 1450, was initially installed on the north wall of the transept next to the Federighi chapel in the church of S. Pancrazio, positioned high up on the wall. It was later relocated near a side door before being moved to the Federighi chapel of S. Francesco di Paola, and finally placed in its current location in 1896. The main component of the tomb is carved from marble, while the ornate frieze surrounding it features terracotta elements enamelled with vibrant colours over a layer of gold leaf.
