Renowned as one of history's most exceptional figurative sculptors, Auguste Rodin crafted such iconic masterpieces as The Kiss (1880-1881), The Thinker (1881-1882), and The Burghers of Calais (1884-1895). With clay, plaster molds, and a meticulous process that included live models, Rodin developed sculptures that were groundbreaking in their meticulous attention to detail and unprecedented realism. Inspired by the female form and literature ranging from Dante to Baudelaire, Rodin demonstrated exceptional skill at conveying tension and emotion through subjects' bodies and amassed a large collection of sculptures depicting men and women in amorous, sensual poses.
