The name Krakow originates directly from his own name. According to legend, Krakus achieves many great accomplishments, including defeating a dragon in battle - either by himself or with assistance from a skilled shoemaker named Skuby. In various accounts, he's portrayed as a wise and just ruler who lives an exceptionally long life. Historical records suggest that the actual leader of Krak may have been the chief of the Vistula tribe that settled in Lesser Poland around 700 AD. He likely ruled during the first half of the eighth century. Mentioned in "The Life of Saint Methodius," a powerful prince sitting at Wiślech could be one of his successors.
