Montuemhat holding a Stela at The British Museum, London
myminifactory
This magnificent grandiorite statue portrays a humbled figure of Montuemhat kneeling with a stela in hand; its creation dates back to either the Twenty-fifth or Twenty-sixth Dynasty, approximately 670-650 BC. It is believed to have originated from Montuemhat's tomb at Thebes. The stela held aloft by Montuemhat displays him making an offering to Atum-Khepri, one of the many manifestations of the Sun God. The text engraved on this stela is a poetic tribute to the setting sun, excerpted from Spell 15 of the Book of the Dead. The inscription on the rear pillar serves as a heartfelt plea to the local deity of the owner for protection. This statue and its identical counterpart in Cairo were most likely erected within Montuemhat's tomb.
