It is home to a historic Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which houses the revered Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary. Some identify this site with the Holy Grail in Arthurian legend. The name "Montserrat" translates to "saw mountain" in Catalan, describing its serrated landscape visible from afar. Composed of striking pink conglomerate rock, it is Spain's first National Park.
