Montessori Screw Board Toy for Toddlers
thingiverse
This is a printable Montessori Board that I've created for kids. To make it more challenging and fun, I designed small handled screwdrivers that are perfect for tiny hands. The embedded nuts are at different heights, providing an interesting obstacle to overcome. All hardware used is SAE 1/4-20, ensuring a snug fit with the plastic components. A threaded rod and wing nut assembly threads directly into the plastic, requiring pliers to secure it tightly. However, be careful not to damage the threads, as they can be delicate. I successfully used Smooth Jawed Knipex pliers without any issues. The four 1/4-20 nuts are embedded inside the block/board, and you'll need to modify your G-code file to pause the print at specific layers, allowing you to insert the nut into its corresponding hole. Depending on your printer's control board/firmware, the actual command(s) may vary, but a discussion on this topic can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/6w7glp/inserting_hex_nut_on_pause/ The Screw Driver Handle utilizes standard-sized bits, typically used with battery-powered hand drills. These bits are affordable and widely available online or at your local hardware store. The Handle file called "Exact" provides precise dimensions for the bits, ideal for printers and slicers set up to print exact dimensions. If you experience any issues, try using the scaled version of the handle, designed specifically for my printer with a .4mm nozzle.
