Next week, a superior quality version will be completed. Monteriggioni is a medieval walled town situated on a natural hill in central Italy. It was constructed by the Sienese between 1214 and 1219 as a front line to counter their adversaries from Florence. During the conflicts between Siena and Florence in the Middle Ages, Monteriggioni served as a strategically positioned defensive stronghold. It successfully resisted numerous attacks from both the Florentines and the forces of the Bishop of Volterra. In 1554, the Sienese secured control of the town's garrison by appointing Giovannino Zeti, who had been exiled from Florence. However, in an act of conciliation with the Medici family, Zeti surrendered the town's keys to the Medicean forces - a move perceived as a grave betrayal by the townspeople.
