MODEL REVIEW The Ford F-450 takes top honors as the largest Super Duty model available, and its performance doesn't disappoint with either a powerful gas or diesel engine on tap. Options are plentiful when it comes to selecting a bed length or cab style from three unique choices. Choose your wheels - whether it's two or four wheel drive, you can trust this truck to get the job done. HISTORY It all started in 1999 with Ford's Super Duty lineup hitting the streets for the first time. This initial batch included an F-450, only available as a chassis cab, bridging the gap between the smaller F-350 and larger F-550 cab models. As part of the second generation of Super Duty trucks from 2008 to 2010, this beast arrived on scene. Boasting an impressive range of options including V-10s paired with manual transmissions and gas-powered eight cylinders, owners knew they'd be treated to exceptional capability. Two additional, luxury-oriented trim lines were added for maximum indulgence: the sleek King Ranch, as well as a one-of-a-kind Harley-Davidson edition. The F-450's reign began again in 2011 when the third-generation Super Duty was introduced, bringing new standards of performance and power. From this point on, manual transmissions disappeared from US market F-450s. What did remain consistent however, were diesel V8's that kept pounding along for top efficiency, even while providing incredible outputs. Alongside luxury variants such as King Ranch and Platinum came more refined engine management for superior towing capabilities of 24,400 to an epic 31,200 pounds - this was certainly a behemoth among its kind by the end of its model run.
