Monster Hunter Contest Wyvern Bone Sword
myminifactory
This is my entry for the "Raise3d and Capcom Monster Hunter Generations Weapon Contest", a creation that combines multiple elements from the game to produce an entirely new weapon concept based on the Monster Hunter universe and style, which I feel perfectly embodies the essence of the series. The inspiration behind this piece comes from the great swords and lances found in the game, as well as the wyverns, whose art styles are truly captivating. To further enhance the experience, I designed a wyvern skull that pays homage to the skeletal remains often discovered throughout the game's environments. Additionally, I created a small felyne companion figurine that can serve as both a stand and display piece or a collectible item. This was done with the intention of providing users with flexibility in how they choose to print and showcase the weapon, allowing each individual to express their unique style. The great sword has been designed in multiple scales: 7in (a perfect fit for figurines), 15in (which I personally printed), and a larger 30in version. With a large enough printer, it's also possible to scale up even further. The larger swords are hollow, not only to reduce printing time and filament usage but also to accommodate lighting if printed with transparent materials, offering the option for glowing energy effects reminiscent of those found on certain creatures in Monster Hunter. The larger sword can be displayed atop the wyvern skull or printed in its entirety with the felyne companion figurine holding the sword. I truly hope that you enjoy this creation and have as much fun printing it as I did designing it. Please let me know if you decide to print it, as I would love to hear your feedback and learn about your experience. Below are some photos of the project before painting, providing a glimpse into where the print began. I'll also be posting a detailed write-up on my website once I have time, covering every aspect of the project from printing to finishing. Afterthoughts: While there's always room for improvement, I'm extremely satisfied with the results considering that 3D printing is still new to me, having only started about eight months ago. Despite being familiar with 3D modeling for years, getting sick for several weeks during competition and running out of time limited my ability to push myself further with painting. Nonetheless, I'm thrilled with how everything turned out in the end.
