One half of an inscribed stone now serves as a wall ornament in the home ('Cleatfurrows') located adjacent to Birsay Parish Church in Orkney. The other half is incorporated into a 13th century lancet, which itself is embedded in the 18th century south wall of the church. This 3D model has been enhanced so that the letters become clearly visible, spelling out "Mon." The other half of the stone reads "s Bellus," resulting in the complete inscription being "Mons Bellus." The raised lettering exhibits characteristics typical of 16th century type. A 3D model of the other half of the stone can be viewed here: https://skfb.ly/6yGVu The Mapping Magnus project, which ran from 2017-18, focused on Birsay in Orkney to commemorate the 900th anniversary of St Magnus's death. This research-based initiative involved both community participation and training activities. Financial support for this project was provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with the Orkney Islands Council serving as the client.
