Monoprice Select Mini V2 X End Cap Puller
thingiverse
The end cap on my Mini v2's X arm was stuck, glued onto the shafts, and I couldn't budge it with a hammer. So I designed a puller to remove the end cap quickly. I ended up with two versions: one with an M3 screw and another larger one with an M4 screw. When I tried to move the stronger-glued shaft of the pair, I over-torqued the first one and destroyed the M3 screw and nut. ### What You Need You will need 2 prints of the puller (either 2 of one size or one of each of both sizes), 2 socket cap screws and nuts for the size of pullers you printed, a good quality allen key(s) for the size of screws used, an M4 drill bit (for the M4 version only), and optional pliers. ### Note on the M3 Version The torque needed to break the end cap free may be very high and can exceed what a regular M3 screw is rated. M3 hardware will likely be ruined after use, so dispose of it to save yourself trouble later. ### Recommendation If you have M4 hardware and don't mind widening a couple holes on your printer, I recommend using the M4 version and skipping the M3 one first. ### Setup Fit a nut into each puller and seat it fully. Use pliers if needed to help the nut fit. If using the M4 version, widen the holes on the end cap at the shaft ends. The pullers are designed to fit over the top and bottom of the end cap and slot in place (see pictures). Fit screws into each puller and make sure they feed into the holes on the end cap. ### Usage Carefully tighten each screw slowly, alternating back and forth. It may take a good amount of torque before the end cap starts to move. Be careful as mine took a lot of force for a small plastic part to budge at first. If your's is glued as well, it may suddenly make a loud snap sound as it first breaks free and starts to move. If using only 20mm long screws, you won't be able to use the pulls to fully remove the end cap, but once a full depth, you should be able to yank it free with your bare hands.
