Monoprice Select Mini V2 original hotend fan
thingiverse
Two and a half years later...I'm still relying on my trusty Monoprice Select Mini V2. One of the printer's weakest points was its cooling system. That small, 30mm fan used to cool both the hotend and the part being printed, but it wasn't sufficient. I've essentially reengineered their idea of using a single fan for both tasks by upgrading to a superior fan (Noctua 40x20mm fan) to prevent heat creep and enhance overall print quality. This upgrade provides several benefits: * Stops heat creep and prevents partial clogs * Directs airflow onto the part being printed, improving print quality * Designed to attach to the original cradle design * Maintains a stable center of gravity for hotend balance * Offers a clear view of the nozzle for build plate leveling The installation process is straightforward: * The fan slips onto the front half of the MPSM hotend clam shell. * Replace old screws with two - #4 x 1 1/4" (picture in images) This upgrade has been thoroughly tested and qualified: * Vapor was used to demonstrate focused air flow on the part being printed * A budget bridge test was conducted to assess bridging and print quality Note: This is a work in progress. Update May 15, 2020: I've started using this upgrade full-time for printing. Initially, I began with small, quick prints, but I've since expanded my usage. We're now well past 100 hours of printing without any issues. The filament comes out in a straight stream, and there's no curling or clogging.
