***Update:*** keeping track of a small detail can be frustrating, so instead of relying on front panel controls, why not select a GCode file and move the printer to the right spot? I added "SHIPPING.gcode" which will position the head correctly, turn off heaters, and boost fan speed. Store this on the sdcard, then whenever you need to pack up your printer for transport, simply print the "SHIPPING.gcode" and you'll be ready to go. This simple trick has made my life much easier. My Monoprice Select Mini printer is excellent, and its compact size makes it perfect for transporting. The easiest way to move it is in the original box with foam inserts. However, I soon realized that its designed Z height can be a problem - too high or too low, and it won't fit properly in the insert. To solve this issue, I initially just winged it, but that didn't work well. Then I took precise measurements using my calipers and checked them against the print bed's dimensions... but eventually, I got lazy and created this straightforward little solution. The crucial dimension is 24mm - the gap between the print bed and the Z arm, not the print head itself. You can print out this part at any size you like - just scale it to 24mm. When it's time to shut down and pack up your printer, place the part on the print bed and manually lower the Z arm until it clears the object, and you're good to go. You can safely turn off the printer and put it in the shipping box without any issues. It's ridiculously easy, almost pointless, but hopefully, this tip will be helpful for someone. I could share the SketchUp source file, but honestly, it's just a 24mm long cylinder with a 10mm diameter - that's it.
