Monoprice Select Mini M5 Lead Screw Mod
thingiverse
You can upgrade your MPSM's lead screw and stepper motor combo to achieve more accurate height calculations and even layer heights without the need for odd numbers. Replacing the M5 lead screw with a NEMA 17 would provide consistent step values on any even number or fraction. However, if you prefer to keep the original stepper motor, it will still give you better results at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mm layer heights. To perform this mod, you'll need to print a custom coupler and lead screw nut. The coupler can be created using the Customizer tool on Thingiverse, referencing the design by Prusa i3: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1329750. For the lead screw nut, you can use the standard 5mm threaded rod with a 0.8mm pitch, as designed by av8r1: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1959596. The holes on this custom design will perfectly align with the original nut holder.
